One of the truly nice things about Halloween is the ability to dress up like someone that you admire. Ever since I was a kid, I have seen every Robin Hood movie that came around. I even watched the Robin and Marian movie that I really did not want to see it by I watched it anyway. Unfortunately, I did not see the most recent one with Russel Crowe due to being sick but I am looking forward to it in a Robin Hood dvd someday soon. Watching these types of movies throughout my childhood and having the ability for me and my family to dress as Robin, his Merry Men, and Maid Marian is a great way that we find to entertain others at the various Halloween Parties that we will be attending and throwing during October. Catwoman in the News
I am sure that you have heard by now that Catwoman (and her iconic Cat Woman costume! has been mentioned as one of the potential villains in the next movie about the Dark Knight. There is also mention of one of the villains being The Riddler played by either Johnny Depp or Robin Williams (I personally hope Robin Williams gets the call!). Getting back to Catwoman…it seems there has been talk of gluing Rachel Dawes back together , she was played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, and have her come back to life. First, I do not know about you BUT, Maggie is one of the flatest actors in Hollywood! I was extremely bored with her performance and she looked like she was bored playing the role….even when she was getting blown up! I say they need to bring back the famous Michelle Pfeiffer to play the role…now that was a CatWoman who I’d like to get to know better! Maybe this time, explore their relationship a bit.
While doing research for my Female Pirate Costumes website, I was amazed at how many female pirates there were! Take Grace O’Malley for instance. This truly was a Pirate Queen! She was born in the 16th century where woman were rarely found as pirates on the open sea but Grace was a spitfire of a woman and nothing was going to keep her near hearth and home as long as she could have the adventures that most woman could only dream of! She became so famous for her exploits that the English Captains would call her “Chief Director and Commander of Thieves and Murders at Sea”…not a title given lightly to a pirate female of Grace’s time.
One of the most popular costumes that I have noticed year after year is the Cat Woman costume. This costume is popular with the women as it shows off their great physiques which then makes it popular with the men! As a young guy growing up, I watched the Batman TV series and thought that the Cat Woman character was very good looking and exotic. Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether, and Julie Newmar were very good actresses when it came to something that had never been asked of a woman before…portray a cat in skin tight costume. They handled it well and looked great doing it!
One of the interesting story lines to come through quite well in different media is the potential that Batman saw in possibly turning Cat Woman from her criminal ways. It had been eluded to many times, through various story lines, that Batman and Cat Woman had a romantic relationship and that was one of the reasons why some felt that Batman did not pursue her as hard as other criminals. That, of course, is left up to the interpretation of each of the viewers and readers of the comic book series. From the time Cat Woman was introduced as Selina Kyle in 1940 to the modern day versions of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry as Catwoman, she has been one of the most popular anti-heroes of my generation.
